Resident Betty Stafford is very crafty! As an accomplished jewelry maker, she decided to share her talent and supplies with fellow residents (l-r) Martha Locke and Rae Henricksen. They made earrings and pins.
Team Methuen Village Gears up for Memory Ride!

Over the past 15 years, Memory Ride has raised over $2.3 million for the Alzheimer’s Association’s research grant programs. Team Methuen Village will be joining hundreds of riders from across the country at the 2011 Memory Ride on Saturday, July 23rd, in cycling 100 miles to find a cure. Our five-rider team will take the 100 mile challenge to support all of our residents, families, and associates who attempt to conquer this devastating disease everyday. Every dollar donated goes to research so that one day we can find a cure. Each rider on Team Methuen Village carries the spirit and hope of the residents in our Compass Memory Support Neighborhood(R). We ride so that one day we will end this disease, and together we are part of that journey.
The ride starts long before the morning our team lines up on the starting line. Our fundraising goal is high but not impossible. We need to raise $3300 dollars for the cure. Will you help us? Donate by stopping in at the Methuen Village reception desk, or by visiting the event webpage at http://www.alzmass.org/memoryride/. Thank you for your support!

Reconnections Program Now Offered in our Traditional Assisted Living
Senior Living Residences’ innovative Reconnections Program is a curriculum-based adult learning program, designed specifically for individuals with memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease. The Reconnections Program utilizes the stimulation of the senses as well as short and long term memory and cognition. Research suggests that cognitive stimulation may slow the progression of dementia. Learning courses are focused on the residents’ interests- both current and those from the past, occupations, and lifelong experiences, and are specifically designed to elicit an engaged response. Continuous exposure to the course topic promotes learning and “reconnects” the residents with current happenings and the world around them, their learning peers and most importantly themselves. Residents experience the universal “joy of learning” that happens naturally during the course of the Reconnections Program.
Reconnections is provided to all residents residing in Methuen Village’s Compass Memory Support Neighborhood, where residents receive a higher level of staffing, in an intimate, secure setting. Methuen Village is now happy to offer Reconnections as an option for residents living in our traditional assisted living.
This offering is appropriate for residents showing signs of memory loss, which may be characterized by:
-anxiety when in larger groups
-confused by fast-paced activities and conversation
-difficulty determining what to do in between meals and activities
-trouble making friends with others in the community
-reduced interest in socializing or favorite hobbies
-repetitive questions
The Reconnections Program for traditional assisted living residents is held in our Game Room, a quiet space that accommodates up to 12 residents. The group spends their day together with our Reconnections Program Director, flowing from one activity to the next, including dining together in the Riverwalk Dining Room. The residents in the group are active and engaged throughout the day. For more information on this program, please contact Benjamin Boulter or Heather Carroll.
Bring your best smiles! It’s picture time!
The team at Methuen Village is looking forward to hosting our annual resident and family “holiday bash” this coming Monday, the 20th, at 6PM. As a gift to our residents and families, we will be taking family photos in front of our gorgeous tree. Following the event, they will be posted on SLR’s Facebook page, so that you may download them for your own use. Here at Methuen Village, we certainly have the “Christmas spirit” and we can’t wait to share it with all of you! See you on Monday!
Methuen Village Holiday Party
Last year’s holiday party was one of our best attended, most festive, family events at Methuen Village. Everyone seemed to enjoy each other’s company, and we celebrated new relationships, and new beginnings, with our new residents. This year’s celebration is certain to be just as joyous and delicious (thanks to Chef Victor!). Join us for our family party on Monday December 20th, from 6-8PM. We look forward to seeing you there!
Methuen Village Halloween Party!
Methuen Village will host their annual Halloween party, for residents, their families, associates, and their family members as well! Details are as follows:
Casino Night a Great Success!
Last Friday, October 1st, Methuen Village hosted their second annual Casino Night.. this time to raise funds for the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Center. The event was a HUGE success! Over 150 people attended, including family members, residents, and professionals. An astonishing $4200 was raised, to support important research studies being conducted at BU. We are so proud to be partnered with BU, and to have this check to hand them, as a contribution to research that will take us closer and closer to finding better treatment, and one day finding a CURE for Alzheimer’s. We are still accepting donations.. if you are interested in being a part of the CURE, see Seth Dudley at Methuen Village. Your support is appreciated!
